Challenge
When Snap One launched Vibrant Linear Lighting, third-party technicians needed training before they could sell, install, or troubleshoot the product. The challenge: build a comprehensive certification program in under three months, coordinating across a team handling scripting, voiceover, and development — all while making inherently dry technical content engaging enough that technicians would actually retain it.
Solution
I led eLearning development in Articulate Storyline, storyboarding directly in the tool and prototyping multiple iterations of interactive graphics before final build. The course shipped alongside a physical kit of smart devices, so technicians could follow along hands-on as they completed each module.
To make the content stick, I designed experimental activities that went beyond click-through tutorials. One activity let learners slide a virtual lightbulb to see how lumens and wattage shift with color temperature — turning an abstract spec sheet into something tangible. The lightbulb slider was an experimental interaction I designed from scratch — this was 2022, before AI-assisted prototyping, so every iteration was hand-built.
Another challenged technicians to drag and drop smart devices onto a floor plan, configuring a customer's home based on device type, distance, and network strength.
I worked closely with SMEs to ensure technical accuracy on every graphic and refined visuals through several prototype cycles before full development. The hands-on approach wasn't just good learning science — it was essential for content this technical and product-specific.
