LMS user interface redesign
Summary:
Transformed a generic, out-of-the-box LMS into a branded learning portal serving three distinct audiences — and co-led the vendor selection process that made it possible. Customer satisfaction improved by 30%.
Challenge
Benefitfocus customers who purchased training enrolled through Benefitfocus University, but the initial LMS implementation was a templated, out-of-the-box setup with no branding and limited navigation. The experience didn't reflect the quality of the product or the investment customers had made — and it created unnecessary friction for learners trying to find the right courses.
Solution
When Absorb rolled out a more customizable interface, I led the redesign from the ground up.
I configured three distinct audience portals — one for internal employees, one for third-party consultants, and one for end-user customers — each with tailored course catalogs and help resources appropriate to that audience. This ensured learners saw only what was relevant to them, reducing confusion and streamlining navigation.
On the visual side, I designed branded login and landing pages, created custom iconography for the course catalog, and built promotional banners to highlight key offerings.
I also co-led the original vendor selection process that brought Absorb to Benefitfocus — researching LMS options, coordinating demos, and evaluating platforms with stakeholders before the final decision was made.
