Infomercial-style video, stakeholder presentation deck, and road show facilitation package
Summary:
Drove a 340% increase in L&D service requests by conceiving and producing an infomercial-style video and presentation that repositioned L&D as a strategic partner across AbbVie's Business & Technology organization.
Challenge
AbbVie's Business & Technology Solutions (BTS) Learning & Development team faced issues with visibility despite strong services and an updated strategy. Stakeholders across the organization were unaware of L&D's role as a strategic partner or offerings like BTS Accelerate LMS and AI personalization. This lack of engagement risked underutilization during important changes.
The goal was to enhance adoption by shifting mindsets and positioning L&D as a key business driver rather just a training function.
Solution
The L&D team needed to break through organizational noise and compete for attention alongside high-priority tech initiatives. A conventional "here are our services" video would have blended into the background — so I proposed something unexpected.
I conceived an infomercial format inspired by pitchman Billy Mays: intentionally playful, high-energy, and self-aware. The approach signaled that L&D was creative, nimble, and willing to take risks — exactly the perception shift the team needed to be seen as a strategic partner rather than a training function.
Working solo, I wrote all scripts, built the AI avatar video using Synthesia and HeyGen with ElevenLabs voice generation, animated supporting graphics in Adobe After Effects, and designed the companion presentation deck in PowerPoint. The presentation addressed leaders, teams, and L&D champions with clear "what's in it for me" messaging connecting learning services to real business challenges.
The final Road Show package equipped the Director of Learning and his team to deliver consistent, compelling sessions across corporate meetings.
Adobe After Effects, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere, Camtasia, Canva, ElevenLabs, Envato GenAI, HeyGen, Microsoft PowerPoint, Synthesia
Results
The Road Show generated a 340% increase in learning development requests within the first quarter.
Post-session surveys showed 89% of attendees gained clearer understanding of L&D's role in business transformation, with 76% planning to engage with services within 30 days.
The infomercial approach became a model for future internal communications, with stakeholders requesting "that energetic Road Show style" for other initiatives—cementing L&D's reputation as both strategic partner and creative force within AbbVie.
